I majored in Economics at a small liberal arts college. So when I was offered a position at a start-up SEO company, I had no idea what that exactly meant, but I needed money and they told me I would get to write, and it felt like a dream.

Like all liberal art graduates, many family members commented on how my “degree didn’t translate to my job”, but honestly, the parallels between SEO and economics are startling. I loved SEM Rush, Moz, and the data associated with SEO. Just like economics, it had rules and mathematical models, that if followed just right, would create financial success for the company and the organizations we were supporting. I became enthralled with developing marketing strategies, organic content, and fine-tuning the content I produced by letting the audience dictate the voice of my work. I wrote articles that combined politics and passion, humor and sadness, and turn emotion into action. As a new graduate, I couldn’t have asked for more. In fact, a favorite piece of mine actually went Twitter viral for a hot second.
